Hassle Free Migration
One of the barriers to preventing a hosting customer, moving their website from one provider to another is the worry about transferring their existing data.
This concern is not without a firm basis. The hosting industry is still quite a technical process, and dress it up how you like, moving from one host to another is not always an easy process.
It is not made any more straight forward, by the fact that no one website transfer is the same. It even varies depending on the whether your domain name is a .co.uk or a .com!
Many people are put off by this, and end up sticking with a service, that they may not be happy with, or that they are paying too much for.
Campaign For Simple Transfer
At Hipposerve we believe that transferring your website and digital data should be as easy as switching mobile phone or utility provider.
This would make the industry fairer and enable customers to have a better choice of providers and hold their existing providers to account over a substandard service.
However, in the absence of an appetite for this in the industry, it is our aim to make the process as simple as possible for customers wishing to switch to Hipposerve.
The Transfer Process
The website transfer, or migration process is typically in five stages.
- Transfer of website files
- Transfer of any databases
- Transfer of any hosting settings
- Transfer of any email accounts (if applicable)
- Transfer of the domain name.
- Website optimisation
However each one of these can vary, depending on the existing installation. As a result we perform a complete audit of the existing host to ensuring that the process as as smooth as possible.

What We Do
Before we do any work on either your old or new site we will create a backup of your database and website files. This means that should anything go wrong, we can revert your site to exactly how it was before.
Test Test Test
We will test your new installation fully before it goes live to minimise disruption. We can’t guarantee that there won’t be some down time due to DNS issues beyond our control.
We will examine your site to see if there is anything we can do to improve its performance and security. If there is we will let you know. If you are interested we will complete this work for free.
How Long Does the Transfer Take?
We have completed hundreds of transfers and no two are the same.
The time taken for the transfer to complete depends on a number of factors.
- The size of your website, the larger it is the longer the work will take.
- The complexity of your installation
- If any optimisation work is required.
- If you require any email transfers
There are also elements beyond our control, such as the time taken for your your existing host to release the domain name (some take ages), and the time taken for the DNS servers to propagate.
As a rough average transfers tend to take between 5 and 7 days.
Moving from one hosting supplier to another should not be a difficult process but it all too many cases it can be. The hosting industry has a long way to go before a website transfer can happen in a few clicks – it is still an involved process.
We aim to take the hassle our of this process with our comprehensive FREE hassle free migration service.
