Managing DNS Records

Introduction #

DNS is one of the most complicated aspects of ensuring your website, email, and other online services function correctly. From time to time, you may need to update your DNS records, to change your email provider, or add Facebook Pixel verification for example. Whilst the Hippo Helpers will always be on hand to assist you with this, we recognize that many people prefer to make these updates themselves. This guide explains managing DNS records in your Hippo Portal, or on your Hipposerve Hosting platforms.

Finding Where Your DNS is Hosted #

  • Before you can manage your DNS entries, you need to find out where the DNS is hosted. If you update your DNS in the incorrect place, the changes you make will not take effect. To do this, you need to find out what your nameservers are.
  • Go to https://dns.hipposerve.co.uk
  • Type the domain name of the Nameservers you are looking for
  • Make sure that you change the search option to look for the Nameservers (NS)

Hipposerve - Manage DNS

  • This will bring up a list of the nameservers that your domain name is pointing to.

Third Party DNS #
  • If your nameservers are anything else it means that your DNS is being managed by a third party, and you will need to content them, or login to their platform in order to manage your DNS.
  • Sometimes these, nameservers do not give any clues as to where the DNS is being hosted. Whilst Hipposerve can provide support in locating this information (https://help.hipposerve.co.uk), we are unable to assist in the management of third party DNS.
